Training kit: How to become a mentor?

This training kit is designed to equip Mentors+ with the skills and knowledge they need to effectively support their Mentees throughout their mobility experience.

The total duration of the structured training activities is 7 hours and 45 minutes. However, the total duration of the training may vary depending on how trainers choose to present the theoretical content and discussions.

Learning objectives of the training

  • To provide people who wish to become Mentors+ with the essential knowledge and skills for effective mentoring.
  • To improve the preparation of a Mentor+ before matching with a future international mobility participant.
  • To encourage Mentors+ to optimise their support through specific themes.

Learning process

The training manual is designed to provide trainers with the information and knowledge they need to prepare for the training. The training plan provides trainers with a detailed step-by-step plan for implementing the training.

Training outline

  1. Understanding the role of the Mentor+ – mobility, support, role, commitment
  2. Preparing the Mentor+ / Mentee relationship – expectations, responsibilities, framework, support
  3. Being a good Mentor+ – skills, active listening, intercultural awareness, sharing, managing challenges
  4. Assuming responsibilities – contact, meetings, follow-up, closure, problem solving
  5. Conclusion – resources, continuity, support

MENTOR

The aim of the MENTOR project is to strengthen the capacity of youth organisations by providing them with tools to facilitate the implementation of mentoring activities within their own activities.
