Training Curriculum: Social Assistance
This curriculum is the result of the European project CARING COMPASS (« Empowering Support Persons in Social Sphere »), co-funded by the Erasmus+ programme. The main objective of this initiative is to strengthen the skills and autonomy of professionals working in the field of care and social assistance.
Programme Objective
This training material was developed to provide a solid knowledge base and methodological framework for trainers and organisations working with social workers and support staff. It aims to professionalise accompaniment practices, promote inclusion, and contribute to more resilient and autonomous communities.
Structure and Content
The training programme is organised around seven main modules, each detailing the learning objectives, key topics, and recommended pedagogical methods:
- Fundamental principles of the work of social support professionals.
- Mastering essential communication skills.
- Development of social skills and the operational capacity of the beneficiary in daily life.
- Goal-setting methods in working with beneficiaries.
- Human life cycle and mental health.
- Case management and networking.
- Social protection system.
Target Audience
The resource is primarily intended for:
- Training organisations and trainers working in the social sector.
- Care and social assistance professionals and social support staff (home care assistants, educators, specialised support staff, etc.) seeking to develop their practices.
- Institutions aiming to structure continuous learning in the field of social support.

Caring Compass
Support workers play a vital role in assisting vulnerable groups in Europe, including migrants, refugees, people with disabilities, and individuals facing social or economic barriers. The Caring Compass project aims to better understand their needs, promote their role, and provide them with practical tools to strengthen their autonomy and effectiveness in the field.
