Mano A Mano is a Peruvian NGO enhancing life in Lima’s vulnerable neighborhoods. With 80% of staff and beneficiaries from the local community, this mission focuses on empowerment and internal growth. The volunteer will balance administrative structuring with capacity building to help the NGO reach higher standards.
Missions, tâches, activités
The volunteer will perform the following activities:
- Lead capacity-building workshops for staff and community on non-discrimination, gender equality, transparency, and security protocols.
- Structure the administrative committee and synthesize internal management and governance documents.
- Conduct rights advocacy and awareness-raising within the neighborhood regarding vulnerable communities’ rights.
- Support community initiatives like organizing Useful Holidays for 150 children, eco-fairs, or retaining wall construction. Through these actions, the volunteer will strengthen community resilience while ensuring long-term sustainability.
Profil recherché
· Candidates must be 18 to 35 years old and reside in an eligible country, which includes EU Member States, North Macedonia, Iceland, Liechtenstein, or Turkey. Applicants must have completed the compulsory Humanitarian Aid Volunteering training and cannot have participated in an individual Humanitarian Aid Volunteering mission before. When adding together this new volunteering opportunity and any previous participation in EU volunteering programmes, the total duration cannot exceed 12 months. · The ideal volunteer has training or experience in law, human rights, administration, international development, or social work. We look for candidates with a strong ability to analyze, synthesize, and organize complex legal or administrative data into clear internal documents. Knowledge of human rights, labor rights, and gender equality frameworks is highly valued. Additionally, you should possess the ability or a strong interest in leading training sessions, workshops, and awareness campaigns on sensitive topics like non-discrimination, security protocols, and transparency. · The role requires flexibility and humility, with a deep understanding of your role as a supporter of local efforts. You must be able to adapt to changing realities and resource-constrained environments. Proven experience working directly with vulnerable or marginalized communities and a strong grasp of rights-based approaches at a neighborhood level are essential. Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
The volunteer will stay in a room at the Volunteer House, located a few blocks away from the office building. Rooms are typically private but may be shared based on availability. Lunch is provided on office days and during field activities. Public transport is used to reach project sites. Located 1.5 hours from central Lima, the volunteer will mostly live within the community, experiencing local reality firsthand, and must follow local safety rules. The volunteer will be fully supported and guided by the local team and community member.
Training during the activity
As part of the EVER project, the volunteer will attend a pre-departure training receive an initial orientation and weekly follow-ups for ongoing support. Training sessions will focus extensively on interculturality, field-level rights advocacy, and humanitarian transparency standards. The volunteer will receive coaching to effectively share legal, security, and administrative skills with the local team. This ensures that knowledge remains sustainable within the community long after the mission ends. A closing evaluation will reflect of the volunteer’s personal and professional development.
