EDIGO: A training programme for the successful implementation of EDI in youth work
Discover the EDI project’s ‘Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges’ training programme. A comprehensive guide to help youth workers set up training to integrate the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) within youth organisations.
The ‘ Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges’ training programme is a comprehensive guide designed to help youth workers integrate the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) into their work. It has been created as part of the EDIGO project, which encourages social inclusion, values diversity and promotes equality. This training is designed to respond to the unique challenges faced by young people with greater needs in participating in their organisations.
Youth workers, trainers, coordinators and volunteers can all benefit from the EDI GO programme, which offers practical advice on setting up training for professionals. This training will then help professionals to create inclusive environments and ensure equal opportunities for all. The programme is structured around five modules, each addressing different aspects of implementing EDI.
Five key modules of the programme
- Governance/Leadership
This module focuses on integrating EDI values into management and policy. Participants will learn how to create inclusive strategies and strengthen their organisation’s capacity to prioritise equality and diversity at all levels. - Building and Space Design
Inclusion goes beyond leadership and extends to the spaces in which young people work. This module highlights the importance of removing physical and cultural barriers, ensuring that every environment is accessible and welcoming. - Attitudes and Relationships
Promoting empathy and solidarity within the organisational culture is essential for the effective integration of EDI. This module uses participatory activities to help participants develop a more cohesive and inclusive group dynamic. - Community and partnerships
EDI is not just an internal concern. Engaging with communities and forming partnerships are essential to fostering inclusion. This module guides youth workers in creating collaborative and inclusive decision-making processes that involve diverse voices. - Working directly with young people
The final module aims to provide youth workers with tools to design inclusive projects and create learning environments that are culturally appropriate and accessible to all.
Practical tools for trainers
The programme also includes practical tools to help trainers organise effective sessions. It offers interactive methods such as group discussions, case studies and the inclusive language taboo game, all designed to improve communication and encourage reflection. Trainers are given step-by-step guidance, as well as tips and best practice, to ensure that their sessions have an impact and are engaging.
The Breaking Barriers, Building Bridges programme offers youth workers a structured approach to integrating the principles of EDI into their work. By providing tools for leadership, space planning, community engagement and direct interaction with young people, it enables organisations to create inclusive environments where all people, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds, can flourish.
This programme is an essential resource for all those committed to upholding the values of EDI and fostering a culture of inclusion and human rights in youth work.
