Certification of the EU Aid Volunteers Program

The Certification Mechanism of the EU Aid Volunteers Program

The EU Aid Volunteers initiative provides opportunities to European citizens, from a wide range of backgrounds and with a diversity of skills and professional experience, to get involved in humanitarian aid projects.

The objective of the EU Aid Volunteers initiative is to contribute to strengthening the Union’s capacity to provide humanitarian aid through the added value of joint contributions of EU Aid Volunteers.

The actors of the initiative are:

  • Sending organizations: follows the selection, recruitment and deployment of volunteers
  • Hosting organizations: receives the volunteers and work with them to realize concrete activities for their beneficiaries
  • Volunteers: work in support of the host organizations in third countries to realize activities in humanitarian aid context.

  1. Become a certified sending or hosting organization
  2. Build a consortium of European and third country organizations
  3. Submit a project proposal for deployment of volunteers

All organizations wishing to send or host volunteers under the EUAV initiative must be certified. The certification process enables to guarantee the quality of the training before the departure and the follow-up of volunteers on the ground.

The main core of the certification mechanism is a self-assessment form to verify standards and procedures of volunteer management set to protect and manage volunteers during their deployment under the EUAV initiative. Organizations are requested to provide relevant data showing their experience in the humanitarian sector (procedures and policies on security, logistic and administration management; experience within the field of humanitarian aid, data protection, vulnerable person protection process…).

At the end of 2015, ADICE has realized the AU Aid Volunteers certification process by assessing its own process and tools that it has been developed during the past experiences in humanitarian volunteering field such as the pilot program EVHAC.

In January 2016, ADICE has been certified within this humanitarian volunteering management. This certification is available for 3 years.

ADICE is now ready to be able to participate or coordinate an EU Aid Volunteers deployment project.

ADICE, which has a large network in the humanitarian field (community development, health, education) will support its partners to be also certified as host organization within EU Aid Volunteers program (including through the EU Aid Volunteers Capacity Building project “PHASE”).
